Start Torque Less Than 0.03N·M Coreless Permanent Magnet Generator

The GREEF NEW ENERGY GDG series features a disc-type permanent magnet generator designed without an iron core. This unique generator adopts a disc-shaped configuration where the spindle and rotor are stacked together. The stator is fixed centrally, while the rotor rotates on both sides of the stator. Notably, the spindle contains only windings and does not include an iron core.

Both the stator and rotor take the form of flat discs and utilize axial air gap magnetic flux. They are arranged alternately along the axial direction. Thanks to its relatively short axial length combined with a large diameter, this disc generator easily supports a multi-pole structure. This design results in a high power-to-mass ratio and a low speed rating.

The GDG series offers several advantages, including low startup wind speed, compact size, reduced energy consumption, light weight, and high efficiency. Its compact structure and superior performance make it ideal for use in direct-drive vertical axis wind turbines. The design specifically minimizes resistance to wind due to the rotor's placement on the turbine's vertical axis.

There are two variations of the GDG series disc-type permanent magnet generators: the outer rotor and inner rotor types. In the outer rotor model, the rotor shaft does not rotate the casing, and cables are routed through the center of the shaft. Conversely, in the inner rotor model, the casing remains stationary while the shaft rotates, and cables are routed outside the casing.

“I built a small pico hydro system on the creek behind my off-grid cabin. The water head is only 3 meters and flow rate around 0.2 m³/s – too low for most generators. This axial flux coreless unit starts generating usable power at just 150 RPM. No cogging, no iron loss, and it’s silent. I’m getting 300-400W continuously, 24/7. My old induction generator would barely light an LED at that speed. Absolutely perfect for low-head hydro.”
