The GDG series disc-type permanent magnet generator by GREEF NEW ENERGY is distinguished by its iron-core-free design. In this generator, the spindle and rotor are constructed in a stacked disc shape, with the stator fixed centrally. The rotor rotates on both sides of the stator. Notably, the spindle contains only windings and does not include an iron core.
Both the stator and rotor feature a flat disc structure utilizing axial air gap magnetic flux. They are arranged alternately along the axial direction. This configuration, characterized by a short axial length and a large diameter, facilitates the creation of a multi-pole structure. Consequently, the generator achieves a high power-to-weight ratio and operates at low speeds.
Additional advantages of this disc generator include a low starting wind speed, compact size, reduced energy consumption, lightweight, and a highly efficient design. These qualities make it especially suitable for direct-drive vertical axis wind turbines, as the rotor mounted on such turbines presents minimal resistance to the wind.
The GDG series is available in two configurations: outer rotor and inner rotor types. In the outer rotor design, the shaft does not rotate the casing, and cables are routed through the middle of the shaft. Conversely, in the inner rotor design, the casing remains stationary while the shaft rotates, with cables exiting from outside the casing.
The technology eliminates hysteresis and gear notches effects, resulting in an extremely low starting torque of less than 0.1 N·m. This feature ensures smooth and efficient operation from the moment the device begins to move.
