The GREEF NEW ENERGY GDG series features a disc-type permanent magnet generator designed without an iron core. In this innovative design, both the spindle and rotor are arranged in a disc shape. The stator is positioned fixedly in the center, while the rotor rotates on either side. Notably, the spindle contains only windings and omits the iron core entirely.

Both the stator and rotor adopt a flat disc structure and utilize axial air gap magnetic flux. These components are arranged alternately along the axial direction. Due to the generator’s short axial length and large diameter, creating a multi-pole configuration is straightforward. This results in a device with a high power-to-mass ratio, a low-speed rating, and the capability to start at low wind speeds.

The GDG series generator also boasts a compact size, low energy consumption, light weight, and a compact, efficient structure. These features contribute to its high efficiency and superior performance. Because of its low aerodynamic resistance stemming from the rotor’s vertical axis positioning, this model is highly favored for use in direct-drive vertical axis wind turbines.

The GDG series is available in two variants: outer rotor and inner rotor. In the outer rotor type, the shaft does not rotate the casing, and the cable exits through the center of the shaft. Conversely, in the inner rotor type, the casing remains stationary, the shaft rotates, and the cable is routed outside the casing.

“I built a small pico hydro system on the creek behind my off-grid cabin. The water head is only 3 meters and flow rate around 0.2 m³/s – too low for most generators. This axial flux coreless unit starts generating usable power at just 150 RPM. No cogging, no iron loss, and it’s silent. I’m getting 300-400W continuously, 24/7. My old induction generator would barely light an LED at that speed. Absolutely perfect for low-head hydro.”
